State Leaders visit PES and GES

Group of CT State Reps, District Leaders, and BOE members gathered in the hall of elementary school with flags lining the top of the wall.

In support of the PES – GES construction project, Region 15 welcomed State leaders to Pomperaug and Gainfield Elementary Schools on February 2, 2026 for an on-site walk-through, providing a first-hand look at our facilities and the needs of our learning communities. The visit offered an opportunity to see our schools in operation, engage in thoughtful dialogue, and to better understand the educational, structural, and long-term planning considerations driving this project.

Participants included members of the Board of Education, district leadership, and project partners, along with Senator Eric Berthel, Representative Bill Pizzuto, Representative Jason Buchsbaum, Representative Arnold Jensen, Casey Larkins from Senator Hartley's office, and Eileen Conrad from Senator Berthel's office. During the walk-through, the group reviewed current conditions, discussed instructional needs, and explored how purposefully designed learning environments can better support teaching and learning for students and staff.

These conversations represent an important step in our ongoing effort to inform State partners and the broader community about the PES-GES project. As we move forward, continued collaboration and State support will remain essential to advancing a solution that is educationally sound, fiscally responsible, and aligned with the long-term needs of our district and communities.
