Key Project Features

Improve Safety & Security

New building layouts will funnel visitors from the main entrance to the front office for efficient screening. Plans also bring the schools up to current fire and energy codes, including automatic sprinklers and efficient HVAC systems. Expanded parking and larger dedicated bus lanes will improve traffic flow and pedestrian and driver safety.

Enhanced Accessibility

The renovations will bring all of our buildings up to ADA code to ensure they’re fully accessible for all students and community members.

Increased Space for Enrollment

Outdated layouts at Pomperaug and Gainfield force interventions and specialized services into closets, hallways, and other makeshift spaces. New construction would provide purpose-built classrooms and dedicated small-group rooms to protect privacy, support focused learning, and ensure students receive needed services. Enrollment has stabilized and is expected to show a slight increase over the next decade. Updated designs and additional space will provide the capacity to serve current and future students.

Expanded Preschool Opportunities

New construction at Pomperaug and Gainfield will add dedicated, developmentally appropriate preschool classrooms with specialized support areas, child‑sized restrooms, and secure outdoor play spaces. This expansion removes current space limits, supports early intervention, and provides high‑quality, intentionally designed environments for our youngest learners.

Modern Learning Environments

Enrollment has stabilized and is expected to show a slight increase over the next decade. Updated designs and additional space will provide the capacity to serve current and future students. Replacement buildings at Pomperaug and Gainfield will include dedicated, developmentally appropriate preschool classrooms with specialized support areas, child-sized restrooms, and secure outdoor play spaces to strengthen early intervention and high-quality early childhood experiences. The project will also replace makeshift instructional spaces, such as intervention groups held in closets, hallways, and shared areas, with purpose-built classrooms and small-group rooms to restore privacy, flexibility, and better support for all learners.
